Emergency Access for Patient Records

This functionality provides an immediate access to patient’s study details for any user who has Emergency Access privilege. Access to the Emergency Access tab will be available once you log in to the system successfully. Upon every access by the user to view the study, the system creates a Study Access Log in the audit log. The study access log could be reviewed for compliance at any time.

Emergency Access tab is available in the PowerWorklist screen. Upon click, the application displays Emergency Access screen as shown below.

Type in all details of the patient (e.g. last name, first name, date of birth and the study date), and press Enter.

LAST NAME, FIRST NAME AND DOB ARE REQUIRED TO FIND A PATIENT

The application populates a warning message. As per HIPAA regulation, the reading physicians must have prior approval/authorization from the patient to view protected health information.

Click Yes to proceed. The application opens the patient’s study details for the user to view and diagnose the study or produce a diagnostic report.

For every access by the user to view the study, the system creates a log in the Study Audit Log. The study audit log can be reviewed for compliance at any time.
